A group of women dressed in red robes walked through the streets of Sarajevo yesterday. With bowed heads and white caps covering their faces, they symbolically point out the position of women in BiH society.
The three-part performance, based on “The Handmaid's Tale”, took place as part of the BiH Pitchwise festival of women's art and activism, which is celebrating its 18th birthday this year.
“Radical policies force women into a situation where they remain without the rights they have acquired so far. We are now fighting to preserve the level of rights that have been achieved,” one of the activists told N1.
The second part of the performance took place at the National Theater where the women paid tribute to women victims of violence and sent an appeal to stop femicide. They were lying on the floor “bloodied” and “beaten” while around them were tombstones and targets with the inscriptions “Killed by her husband”, “Killed by an extramarital partner”, “Killed by an ex-boyfriend”…
