Hauliers in Bosnia and Herzegovina attempted partial blockades of border crossings with Croatia on Monday to protest against operational difficulties and EU restrictions, but police prevented the action in some areas.

The Logistika BiH consortium called for the blockade, but authorities in the Serb-dominated entity of Republika Srpska and the Bosniak-Croat shared Federation's Una-Sana and West Herzegovina cantons banned the protest. Police said they would not allow it to disrupt traffic or the transport of goods and services.

Some crossings, such as Svilaj, were temporarily blocked, while others were inaccessible due to police presence, said consortium coordinator Velibor Peulić.

Hauliers seek recognition of their status in the EU, which currently limits them to a maximum of 90 days in any six-month period; exceeding this leads to fines and bans on re-entry. They are also calling for reimbursement of fuel excise and VAT for international transport and faster customs procedures.

The Transport Ministry said it shares industry concerns but noted that many issues require coordination across multiple government levels and the EU. It has requested urgent talks with Croatian authorities to secure easier border access for Bosnian truck drivers. Minister Edin Forto said measures under their authority are being implemented to improve working conditions.
