Russia is an “aggressive evil empire that wants to subjugate other nations and doesn’t accept the fact that the times of the Soviet Union are over,” Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, Pawel Jablonski, told N1.
Jablonski stressed that Russia must not be allowed to win the war in Ukraine and go unpunished.
He pointed out Russia’s behaviour even before the war, noting that it attacked Ukraine back in 2014 and Georgia prior to that.
Jablonski also pointed out that his country has been warning about this for a long time.
“And we were right. I wish that all of Europe would have listened then,” he said but noted that today Europe changed and now understands that this represents a real threat.
Jablonski stressed the importance of establishing a tribunal that would be tasked only with dealing with the crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine, arguing that the aftermath of the wars in the Balkans in the early 1990s shows that those responsible can face consequences.
“If we want to live in peace, we need to bring them to justice,” he said.
Jablonski also spoke about the response of the West and the European Union, efforts to send more military assistance to Ukraine, obstacles to introducing EU sanctions on Russia and more. The full interview is linked above.
