The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirovic met with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul and thanked him for the important role of Turkey in the development of a multi-ethnic and functional Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Becirovic thanked Erdogan especially for Turkey’s support for the adoption of the Resolution establishing the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 in the UN General Assembly.
He noted that Turkey is a proven friend of BiH and stressed that this is especially significant considering Turkey is among the strongest members of the NATO alliance,
Becirovic said that membership in NATO is a strategic foreign policy goal of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that realising the main foreign policy goals, among other things, requires continuous improvement of defence capabilities, strengthening and modernization of the Armed Forces of BiH. In this context, he emphasized the importance of cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Turkey in the field of defence and security.
He also thanked Erdogan for its strong support for BiH’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
Erdogan said that he would work on strengthening the overall relations between the two countries in the coming period and that the preservation of unity, peace and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina would be very important to Turkey.
The two stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Turkey have traditionally had very good and friendly relations and that, in addition to the very successful and intensive cooperation on political, social and cultural issues, they want to further improve bilateral economic and trade relations between the two countries.
