An Army of Serbia former colonel Muharem Fazlic, became the first Muslim promoted into a general by President Aleksandar Vucic's decree, the Belgrade Politika daily reported on Wednesday.
Belgrade Mufti Mustafa Jusufspahic broke the news on the promotion on his Twitter account.
“By the decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, Fazlic (Izet) Muharem was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General of the Army of Serbia,” Jusufspahic, who is a military mufti within the Army of Serbia religious service.
