The Cantonal Prosecutor of the Tuzla Canton Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a request to the Cantonal Court in Tuzla to impose pre-trial detention on Emir Selimovic (38) from Kalesija, who is suspected of committing two counts of murder in a particularly insidious manner. The victims were his wife, I.S., and their thirteen-year-old son.
According to the prosecution, on 12 February, between 3:00 and 6:00 am, Selimovic allegedly carried out the crime inside the family apartment in Kalesija while his wife and son were asleep. Exploiting their inability to defend themselves, he is accused of strangling both victims with his hands until they stopped breathing, resulting in their deaths by suffocation.
Following the alleged murders, Selimovic fled the scene in his wife’s car and remained in hiding for several days, evading law enforcement authorities.
On February 17, after an extensive search operation, officers of the Republika Srpska Ministry of Interior (MUP RS) from the Prnjavor Police Station apprehended the suspect in the area of Gornje Mravice near Prnjavor. The arrest followed a series of coordinated investigative and operational measures conducted in cooperation with the Criminal Police Sector of the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Interior (MUP TK).
Investigators from MUP TK’s Criminal Police Sector carried out a forensic examination of the suspect and, along with a report on the criminal offence and supporting material evidence, handed him over to the competent prosecutor’s office.
The acting prosecutor has issued an order to initiate a formal investigation and has questioned the suspect, who exercised his right to remain silent.
