The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina believes that the director of the American University in BiH, Denis Prcic, issued a fake diploma to the head of the country’s Intelligence-Security Agency (OSA), Osman Mehmedagic, so he could continue serving the post, prosecutors said at a hearing before the Court of BiH on Thursday.
The allegations were stated at the hearing on a request to prolong the pre-trial detention of Prcic, who was arrested on July 18 on abuse of office, document fraud and destruction of official documents allegations.
The prosecutor said at the hearing that no documentation was found that would prove that Osman Mehmedagic attended the university between 2998 and 2013 and that the first page of another person’s student’s transcript was torn out and that it was replaced by a new one with Mehmedagic's name.
The case was also expanded to several public servants who prosecutors said also have fake diplomas that were issued for them so they can serve their posts.
The defence said that the allegations are not true, while lawyer Vasvija Vidovic said that the Court of BiH does not even have the competencies to rule on it.
She also said that prosecutors did not check the correct list of students.
Mehmedagic was arrested on Wednesday as he stands accused of abuse of office and document fraud related to this case.
Prosecutors also accuse the head of BiH’s intelligence of money laundering in another case.
