The association of independent intellectuals "Krug 99" and the informal group of citizens "ReSTART" will organize a peaceful protest in front of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) building Friday afternoon, from which they will send a message that it is high time to stop the dismantling of the state.
The president of the Association of Independent Intellectuals “Krug 99” Adil Kulenovic, the appellant before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg against BiH, Azra Zornic, and the founder of ReSTART Suad Djozic explained the reason for the protest at the press conference Thursday.
“We decided to make a protest in a very short time because we consider it necessary to have a meeting at this moment, which will be a kind of early warning of what could happen in the future, both when it comes to the foreshadowed decisions of the High Representative, and possible complications of the situation for which we will then prepare mass protests,” Kulenovic said.
Zornic said that they strongly demand that “malicious politicians and diplomats,” representatives of the international community, immediately stop interfering in the socio-political life of our country, imposing standards that would not be imposed in their own countries.
“From those patriotically oriented domestic politicians, we demand the unconditional fulfilment of 14 key priorities that the country needs to fulfil, to receive a recommendation for the opening of negotiations on joining the European Union, which include the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, but primarily the Zornic judgment, which mandates the adoption of the civil constitution and equal rights for citizens throughout the territory of BiH, i.e. the principle of ‘one man – one vote’,” Zornic stated.
Djozic said there are many citizens in ReSTART “who are marked in the Constitution with the offensive designation ‘others’ and members who vote in elections for those they think are the best for the country at that moment, regardless of their party, ethnic and other identities”.
“We want a democratic and sovereign state, not a discriminatory colonial state ruled by apartheid. It should protect the human rights of every individual, regardless of ethnic, religious or any other affiliation throughout BiH. It's time to say that enough playing with our lives and the future of our children,” Djozic pointed out.
The protests are scheduled at 2 p.m., and the FBiH veterans’ associations have announced their support as well.
