The Oscar nominated film ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’, by Bosnian filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic, is among the three films shortlisted for the 2022 LUX Audience Award and the winner will be declared on Wednesday at the European Parliament.
The plot of Zbanic’s film revolves around Aida, a translator working for the UN in the protected safe zone of Srebrenica on the eve of the July 1995 genocide.
Apart from Zbanic’s film, which already received numerous awards and was nominated for the Academy Award, the films ‘Flee’, by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, and ‘Grosse Freiheit’, by Sebastiana Meise, are nominated for the award.
The LUX – European Audience Film Award has been awarded by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy since 2020 in partnership with the European Commission and the Europa Cinemas network. The EP established the LUX Film Prize in 2007 “to help distribute European films with high artistic quality that reflect cultural diversity in Europe and beyond, and that touch upon topics of common concern, such as human dignity, equality, non-discrimination, inclusion, tolerance, justice and solidarity.”
