Bosnian Oscar candidate, the film 'Quo Vadis, Aida?' by Jasmila Zbanic, has won the Best Balkan Film Award at the 25th Sofia International Film Festival.
According to the jury, this film “stood out” from the “very strong” selection of films in this category.
“A film, where gripping visual storytelling and breathtaking acting go hand in hand, with hunting personal story that makes us remember forever the most shameful and darkest hours of recent European history,” said the jury that was chaired by Israeli producer and director Doron Eran.
‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ is the first feature film made in Bosnia that deals with the topic of the Srebrenica genocide. It premiered at the 77th Venice Film Festival last year and has earned vast critical acclaim since then.
Besides several awards it received at film festivals across the world, including Miami, Jerusalem, Luxembourg and Antalya, the film has been nominated for two BAFTA Awards (Best Director and Best non-English Language Film) and the Academy Award in the Best International Feature Film category.
