Reconstruction and repair efforts on the railway infrastructure damaged by recent floods began on Saturday in the Jablanica area. The initial phase involves cleaning of affected locations and marking the first steps in restoring this critical transport route.

The project was discussed during a meeting in Mostar between Andrijana Katic, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), and the newly appointed management of the public company “Railways of FBiH” (Zeljeznice FBiH).

Mirza Hadzibegic, acting head of the FBiH Railways management board, noted that last week the company received a letter from “Cengiz,” a construction firm, offering to donate work for the cleaning, repair, and reconstruction of the railway. The company also pledged to provide project documentation necessary for the restoration.

At the meeting, it was highlighted that the Ministry of Transport and Communications had issued a temporary traffic regulation order for this location upon the contractor’s request. The initial phase will involve site clearing and preparatory work, followed by repair operations. Once all necessary approvals are obtained, the full reconstruction of the railway will proceed.

Minister Katić emphasized the importance of starting work immediately while adhering to the agreed schedule and implementing all necessary administrative and safety measures.

The urgency of the project was previously underscored by protests on November 21 at the Jablanica railway station. Workers from FBiH Railways and Tuzla-based company “Gikil,” alongside local residents, expressed frustration over delays in repairing the Komadinovo Vrelo railway, which was severely affected by the recent floods in the municipality.
