The tourist season in Bosnia and Herzegovina is setting new records, thanks to the tireless promotion efforts of local travel agencies. The bustling crowds and fully-booked venues are clear indicators of this unprecedented success.

In Sarajevo, the tourist season is in full swing, with a wide array of attractions such as concerts, film festivals, and performances drawing in visitors from around the world. Historical landmarks remain a major draw.

“There are many great things to see, like the Eternal Flame behind us, the Cathedral, Sebilj, and much more. The only downside is that it could be cleaner,” said one tourist. Another added, “I love everything, the lifestyle, the city, and how people live so peacefully here.” A third commented, “The food is like in Turkey, the desserts are like in Turkey, and it’s not a dangerous city—I think it’s a very beautiful city.”

Haris Fazlagić, Director of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, expressed optimism about the ongoing success of the season. “We are optimistic that 2024 will be a record-breaking year. We are now in the second half of the year, which is traditionally the best part, especially with the Sarajevo Film Festival approaching. Tourists find everything in Sarajevo interesting, our gastronomy and hospitality are our pride and what attracts them.”

In Mostar, record numbers of tourists from various countries are visiting despite the high temperatures. They are eager to see the iconic Stari Most and cool off in the chilly waters of the Neretva River.

“It’s wonderful, beautiful, very positive and emotional. We cried when we saw each other after 35 years and now, full of positive energy, we are heading back to Belgrade,” shared one visitor. Another said, “People are very kind, the food is excellent, and I love everything, I’m really enjoying it.” A first-time visitor noted, “This is actually my first time here, and it’s not a typical city; you can see the transition from one era to another. It has its own charm, and I might come back to see if it has changed.”

In Banja Luka, tourists are making the most of their time by visiting attractions, shopping, and trying traditional foods. The city has seen a significant number of tourists from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Croatia, UAE, Serbia, Slovenia, Germany, China, Montenegro, and the USA.

“We arrived yesterday near Prijedor, staying with friends, and we plan to be here for seven days, with plans for shopping and walking around Banja Luka,” said one visitor. Another remarked, “It’s very nice, I was at the market and saw many beautiful things. Everything is nice, the food is great, almost like in Slovenia.” A third added, “Nice weather, beautiful views, it’s very lovely.”

As the tourist season in Bosnia and Herzegovina is still in full swing, detailed statistical data will likely be compiled in the fall. The economic benefits of this booming tourism industry will be significant for the country.
