An opposition MP led a group of people in another failed attempt to remove the central Belgrade mural of convicted Bosnian Serb war-time military chief Ratko Mladic.
The mural was painted by right-wing activists and Partizan Belgrade football supporters prompting human rights activists to try to remove the image of the general convicted for war crimes during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Several attempts to remove the mural failed with activists and hooligans standing guard in front of it for months. The local municipal authorities ordered the mural removed by communal services but that never happened.
The latest attempt was made by opposition MP Djordje Miketic and a group of people who tried to remove the image with brushes. The mural is still in place but with a red heart painted over it.
The mural is flanked on one side by a similar mural of WW2 Yugoslav Royal Army chief General Dragoslav Draza Mihajlovic who was convicted of war crimes after the war with a mural of a WW1 Royal Serbian Army General Zivojin Misic across the street. All three murals include the coat of arms of the Partizan supporters club.
