Monetengrin held a special session on Thursday dedicated to the Prime Minister's hour, but even this session could not escape heated debate over the UN resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica Pročitaj više

The highlight was when the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajic, confirmed that the country will vote in favor of the resolution.

Spajic: We will vote in favor

“This very resolution that we have before us—Srebrenica. There's no problem with it. We will vote in favor; we've said this many times. I've spoken about it publicly; we have condemned the genocide. We have no issue doing this. The government will discuss it, but I think it's redundant to even mention because we are committed to pursuing a pro-European policy,” Spajic stated.

The leader of the Bosniak Party, Ervin Ibrahimovic, asked Spajic if Montenegro would support the UN Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, a resolution initiated by Germany and Rwanda.

Ibrahimovic noted that the resolution had already been co-sponsored by some of Montenegro's key international partners, including the United States, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Austria, Sweden, Italy, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Slovenia, and North Macedonia.

Ibrahimovic believes that by voting for the resolution, Montenegro would once again align itself with countries that value democracy and respect for human rights, demonstrating that it belongs to the civilized world not only in words but also in practice, both in values and formally.

“I believe you can lead the country into the EU with a statesmanlike approach to all challenges facing this government. You have a challenge— the resolution put forward by European partners. Can you meet this significant challenge?” Ibrahimovic asked.

He pointed out that the text of the resolution does not suggest that any particular nation is genocidal.

Spajic responded by saying that he and all those from his party, Europe Now, have always been pro-Western.

“While the DPS [Democratic Party of Socialists] had a pro-Russian stance until 2014 and then turned pro-European, I commend them for the shift. But they accepted my policy. You led a pro-Russian policy for 25 years and then a pro-European one for five years,” Spajic retorted.

Ibrahimovic said he understood that the government would support the resolution.

“I'm glad that the public can hear this, but I would like all government representatives to understand that our place is with the countries co-sponsoring this resolution. It is a civilizational necessity for this society,” he said.

Spajic responded by saying he does not accept the idea that Montenegro is inferior to anyone:

“We are equal to the French, Germans, Americans, Austrians, always. We are not rootless; our roots are deep. We are Europe again. Montenegro is returning to its roots. We should be leaders in Europe.”

He pointed out that many people hadn't read the resolution, mentioning that the amendments to the resolution make clear that no nation is considered genocidal:

“All our partners have supported them. Have we heard any reaction from Bosnia and Herzegovina? I'm convinced the amendments are excellent and will show the true intent. The entire region needs to calm down… We see that Jasenovac will also be part of the process. We support it,” said Spajic.

According to him, the amendments will ensure that no one has anything against the Serbian people.

SNP MP announced that she would not support the resolution

Kenana Strujic Harbic, an MP from the Bosniak Party, noted that the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandic, has been showing “too much love” for the Bosniak people lately, adding that the parties surrounding the former Democratic Front are not part of the current government, but “they have too many” positions of responsibility.

Mandić replied that there would be even more of them, saying that there is no misunderstanding with the Bosniak Party or the Bosniak people.

SNP MP Sladjana Kaludjerovic stated that the SNP will not support the Resolution on Srebrenica in the government.
