Fourteen people have lost their lives in the Herzegovina-Neretva region (HNK) following devastating floods that swept through Bosnia and Herzegovina last night. Darko Juka, head of the public relations department of the HNK Government, confirmed the tragic toll. The HNK Civil Protection Administration has urgently appealed to citizens to avoid travelling on the roads to Konjic and Jablanica, warning of the dangers and urging everyone to follow the instructions of rescue services to prevent further casualties.

The intense downpours caused rivers to overflow and triggered landslides, severely disrupting life in the affected areas. In the municipalities of Jablanica and Konjic, many residents were forced to evacuate as floodwaters inundated homes, damaged properties, and cut off major roads. The Federation entity's Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) reported that key routes, including Jablanica-Mostar, Jablanica-Risovac, Jablanica-Prozor, and Jablanica-Konjic, have been blocked, hampering rescue efforts.

FUCZ warned that lives remain at risk due to ongoing landslides and floodwaters. Alongside the confirmed deaths, there are also reports of numerous injuries and missing individuals. The village of Ostrozac, for instance, saw its railway tracks destroyed by mudslides, while a landslide in Buturovic Polje severed local roads.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, police, and local utility workers, are working tirelessly to manage the situation. Private companies have also joined in, deploying heavy machinery to assist in rescue efforts, though more resources are needed to control the widespread devastation. Local officials have called for additional support to mitigate the impact of the floods.

The severe weather has also hit Fojnica and Kiseljak, with both areas experiencing flooding that has led to school closures and significant disruption. The main road between Sarajevo and Mostar has been overwhelmed, with large traffic jams reported. One of the worst-hit sections, near Komadinovo Spring, has been completely washed away, further complicating access to the region.

Despite the ongoing rescue efforts, the situation remains critical as authorities work to prevent further loss of life.
