Roaming charges between Western Balkan countries and the European Union will be completely abolished in the near future, Croatian parliament member Bojan Glavasevic told N1.
According to Glavasevic, this was mentioned at the Parliament session on Tuesday within a discussion on the prime minister's reports referring to the European Union. Among those documents, Glavasevic noted, there was a mention of an agreement that was signed in late 2022, which stipulates the abolition of roaming charges between the EU and the Western Balkans.
“It is still necessary to sign several bilateral agreements related to teleoperators. The Western Balkan countries will then enjoy the benefit – no effective roaming between the countries of the EU and the Western Balkans. We've been waiting too long for that. Citizens were charged far too high prices,” the MP told N1.
During the recent EU-Western Balkans summit in Tirana, participants signed the roaming declaration, which enabled the reduction of roaming fees between the EU and the Western Balkans as October 1, 2023. At the time, it was said that this would reduce roaming costs for citizens throughout the Western Balkans and the EU while traveling to the region and the EU, and would also reduce operating costs of doing business.
“This initiative is exceptional, especially since it was done on a voluntary basis between telecommunications operators,” it was emphasised on this occasion.
