The Government of Bosnia's Republika Srpska (RS) entity has submitted a draft law to the parliamentary procedure proposing the formation of a reserve police force, confirmed RS Minister of Internal Affairs Sinisa Karan at a press conference held after a special government session.
Karan explained that the proposal is included in the Draft Law on Police and Internal Affairs, submitted under urgent procedure.
“There is a clear need for additional police personnel to perform regular duties, particularly during natural disasters,” Karan said, outlining the rationale behind the initiative.
He stated that the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently short 1,019 police officers.
The government also adopted, under urgent procedure, the Draft Law on Weapons and Ammunition, which proposes changes to the deadline for legalising firearms that citizens are permitted to obtain.
