Bosnian Serb Presidency member Milorad Dodik, Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) leader Dragan Covic and Democratic Action Party (SDA) leader Bakir Izetbegovic are the axis of evil grinding this country to the ground, Nebojsa Vukanovic, an MP in Republika Srpska (RS) entity parliament said for N1 Wednesday, adding that Dodik is still the most extreme of the three.
Speaking about Dodik, Vukanovic said he is a “Croat player” backing his claim up with the statement by Croatian Foreign Minister Grlic-Dadman who said, “sanctions against Dodik are a blow u Croatia’s interests.”
“For years, I’ve been saying that he (Dodik) was a Croat player. One of the most extreme right-wing politicians in Croatia said today that ‘unfortunately, Dodik is a lot better protector of Croat interests than Covic’,” Vukanovic said.
He described Covic as cautious adding that he had “the typical behaviour of Croat politicians – be nice to everyone but not honest with anyone.”
“Dodik says what suits him. He says that (Bosnian Croat Presidency member Zeljko) Komsic is illegitimate, and then he celebrates the local election victory in Prijedor with the people from Komsic’s party because they helped him win,” Vukanovic noted.
According to him, Dodik will be betrayed by his closes associates, and that the Serb Presidency member’s withdrawal from the politics is inevitable.
“He has no intention of destroying BiH. He has only one intention – to take over the judicial system after Milan Tegletija (who was dismissed as head of Bosnia’s top judicial institution), who kept the judiciary under control for years. Dodik is not interested in customs, army or anything, only to control the judiciary,” Vukanonvic pointed out.
The RS MP added that he was not in favour of imposing sanctions on Dodik because that would make him a victim, and the people would not benefit from it at all.
“We (the RS National Assembly as the entity parliament is officially called) adopted the budget today. There were one billion and several hundred thousand Bosnian marks from the Indirect Taxation Authority. No money to finance the army, border police, etc. If you’re preparing for this, you have to have it in your budget. On the one hand, Dodik is going all the way and asks for concessions, spreads fear, evicts people who are not his supporters, creates anarchy. If one wants an army, then one should take the previous law establishing the RS army and vote for it again. There is no need for philosophy here. He started with radical measures, they started preparing ID cards, passports and documents. And after being warned that the West would react, he immediately backed down. His goal is to intimidate the people, That’s how he survived for the past 15 years,” said Vukanovic.
In the end, Vukanovic said that Dodik does not have anyone’s support for the announced withdrawal from state institutions or RS’ secession – neither Serbia's nor Russia’s. According to him, the latest crisis was caused by nationalist leaders who feel that their time is over and that they are doing this out of fear.
