A group of Sarajevo citizens gathered on Saturday at the Old Town central square to welcome the ceasefire in Gaza.
They asked the international community to ensure lasting peace for the suffering people of Gaza and Palestine as a whole.
Last week on Wednesday, when a cease-fire in Gaza was agreed in the capital of Qatar, residents of Sarajevo, Mostar, and other cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated the long-awaited peace that came to the Palestinians last Sunday in the morning parading in a convoy of cars.
Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman announced last Wednesday, January 15 evening that a cease-fire agreement had been reached in the Gaza Strip, noting that its implementation would begin on Sunday, January 19 in the morning.
Bin Abdulrahman noted that Qatar, Egypt and the United States will “work to ensure the implementation of the agreement”, with mechanisms in place to monitor its implementation and address potential violations.
Numerous displaced residents of Gaza, after the ceasefire was reached, headed for their homes in the hope that they would be able to rebuild a new life in the burnt-out areas of their homes.
An exchange of hostages was also agreed upon, so that Hamas has already released several imprisoned Israelis, while Israeli forces have announced the release of hundreds of imprisoned Palestinians, primarily in the West Bank.
During the attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, more than 46,000 Palestinians were killed and more than 110,000 people were wounded, according to local institutions in Gaza.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
