During Sunday’s extraordinary session, the Sarajevo Canton (KS) Government adopted new measures implying greater police activity with the aim of ensuring as much safety as possible in traffic. Some measures will be implemented urgently, while the others will be implemented in the long term, KS Deputy Prime Minister, Emir Dedovic said.
“Measures related to the police, the police themselves started doing certain things yesterday and preventing some of the things that are under their jurisdiction. As a first measure, we introduced increased police surveillance at all current intersections from 7 pm to 7 am. As of June 1, we are completing the procedure for 195 new police officers who will support the current units. Another thing is increased control and support in cars and interceptors that register those exceeding the speed limit, to help police officers and cameras. This is a measure that will help until we properly cover the city with cameras,” said Dedovic.
“The third measure we adopted is to complete and remove the current obstacles, to permanently confiscate the vehicles of violators of these measures. We have determined where the obstacles are in the system to resolve them and we’ll give deadlines to finish it as soon as possible so that those who abuse a car can never again have the opportunity to have that vehicle at their disposal. The next thing is that we’ll increase the fines imposed for traffic violations,” said Emir Dedovic.
He added that the next step is the initiation of the procedure to reduce the speed in populated areas of Sarajevo, as soon as possible, from 40 to 30 km/h and from 60 to 50 km/h.
