Sarajevo cevapi have officially been protected as an indigenous domestic product following the completion of the protection process, confirmed by the City of Sarajevo.
The procedure was initiated by the City of Sarajevo in 2022. Last year, Sarajevo's Mayor Benjamina Karic held discussions with the Director of the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dzemil Hajric, to brand Sarajevo cevapi as an authentic domestic product.
“I am very satisfied with the actions we have undertaken during our mandate. The city has done more than expected. Previously, no one acted in this direction,” said Karic at the time.
After the procedure was officially completed, Karić shared the news on Facebook, stating, “I am delighted to share that the process of protecting Sarajevo ćevapi as an indigenous domestic product has been completed. The City of Sarajevo initiated this process in 2022, and it has now been finalized in collaboration with those who prepare this famous meal and the Food Safety Agency of BiH.”
