The Microbiology clinic of the Sarajevo University Clinical Centre confirmed the presence of the so-called Czech strain of the new coronavirus in 21 patients, Faktor.ba portal reported Friday.

According to the Diagnostics manager, prof dr Sandra Vegar-Zubovic and the head of Clinical Microbiology prof dr Amela Dedejic, a new generation sequencing was performed Friday on the MiniSeq Sequencing System Illumina where 21 out of 56 samples originating from four cantons of Bosnia's Federation entity proved the existence of the N501Y mutation.

Based on sequencing results, they confirmed that the population is dominated by the so-called British strain but that the Czech variant of the Sars-Cov-2 is also in circulation, Faktor reported.
