The public company Sarajevo-gas Istocno Sarajevo will suspend the supply of natural gas to BiH’s capital at midnight due to a malfunction and leakage on the Zvornik-Sarajevo main gas pipeline, requiring repairs at the Snagovo block station. Repairs are not being carried out because the workers are attending the support rally for the president of BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity in Banja Luka.

“The workers of ‘Sarajevo-gas’ a.d. Istočno Sarajevo, due to the public rally in support of the institutions of Republika Srpska – ‘Protection and Defense of Republika Srpska and Its Interests,’ which is being held today and tomorrow in Banja Luka, will not be able to repair the malfunction and restore the natural gas supply before midnight on February 27, 2025,” the company stated.

Almir Becarevic, president of the Cantonal Board of the Party for BiH in Sarajevo Canton, explained that this gas pipeline supplies gas to both Sarajevo and Istocno Sarajevo.

“This gas pipeline is 50 years old, it's deteriorating, and this is proof of what we’ve been saying—that the issue of the Southern Interconnection must finally be resolved,” he said.

In a statement for N1, he called this situation “an act of terrorism.”
