Bosnia’s capital hosted another "Sarajevo Marathon," the biggest marathon race in the country in which runners from as many as 41 countries took part, starting at eight o'clock near the City Hall.
Over 1,700 registered participants ran in one of the following distances: Marathon (42,195 meters), Half Marathon (21.97 meters), “Osman Junuzović” Memorial Race (5,000 meters), Kids Run and the Balkan Military Half Marathon Championship.
Darko Loncar, ultramarathon runner and president of the “Boys in Blue” Association, pointed out that they expect good fun and a real spectacle.
“The fourth edition of the marathon gathers runners from 41 countries. We have around 1,430 registered participants in longer distances, and 270 registered children in the children's race, which is somewhere around 1,700 participants. Soldiers from ten countries are also coming, we also have members of EUFOR and NATO as part of the race. About a hundred soldiers are in the race,” said Loncar.
The Balkan Military Half Marathon Championship brought together athletes from military units across the Balkans, including Turkish soldiers.
A well-known BiH athlete Zaim Suman also ran the Sarajevo Marathon.
“This is a big sports event in this city and in our country, one of the biggest in our country. We expect everything to go well and all the runners to finish the races. It is important to promote friendship and companionship through sports,” Suman said.
