The 25th anniversary of the reintegration of the Sarajevo settlements of Grbavica, Kovacici and Vraca was marked Friday with the laying of flowers, a prayer and a minute of silence at the memorial on the Bridge of Suada Dilberovic and Olga Sucic.
With the reintegration of the Sarajevo settlements of Grbavica, Kovacici and Vraca, 25 years ago, the process of reintegration of areas that belonged to the BIH capital under the Dayton Peace Agreement was completed.
The head of the Novo Sarajevo municipality, Hasan Tanovic, recalled that Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the reintegration of Grbavica, Vraca and Kovacici settlements.
“We started celebrating that day, which is essentially a solemn day and something that is to the satisfaction, pride and happiness of all citizens of the city of Sarajevo, by paying tribute to some of the first victims of aggression against BiH, Suada Dilberovic and Olga Sucic,” he explained.
He noted that the day of reintegration of these settlements is a day that will remain deeply engraved in the memory of all those who were part of those processes in 1996.
Several months after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and ended almost four years of the siege of Sarajevo, on March 19, 1996, members of the security forces of the Federation entity entered the settlements of Grbavica, Kovacici and Vraca. Thus, after almost four years of occupation by the aggressors, these settlements were returned to the Sarajevo municipality of Novo Sarajevo.
