Following the incident that occurred in Kulovica Street in front of the Youth Theater, where high school students from Novi Sad who were in Sarajevo as part of a student exchange program were attacked, the Mayor of Sarajevo, Predrag Puharic, strongly condemned the violence and expressed assurances that the attackers would be held accountable for their actions.
"Such an incident is, in principle, foreign to Sarajevo, especially towards guests who have traditionally been warmly welcomed in this city. It is particularly important to emphasize that the students coming as part of the exchange program represent bridges of friendship among young people, who do not know borders or differences. Their stay in our city should be filled with beautiful experiences and new acquaintances," said Puharic.
He added that this incident deserves greater attention to ensure that such things do not happen in the future.
The Mayor also sent words of support to the students and teachers of the "Druga Gimnazija" Grammar School in Sarajevo, the hosts of the students from the "Tvrdjava" Grammar School in Novi Sad:
"Do not let this unfortunate event discourage you, as your dedication and effort are a testament to our true values," emphasized Puharic.
Finally, he stated that Sarajevo, as a city with a rich multicultural tradition, has always been and will continue to be a place where visitors will feel safe, welcome, and respected.
