Tourists staying longer in Sarajevo

Cumulatively, during the first seven months of 2026, from January through July, the total number of arrivals remained almost identical to the same period last year. However, the number of overnight stays recorded a significant increase of 5.2 percent, indicating a trend of visitors staying longer in the capital and making greater use of its diverse tourism offerings.

Haris Fazlagic, President of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, said the figures confirm the stability of the sector and the positive direction of the city’s international promotion.

“Results recorded in July confirm that Sarajevo maintains its status as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the region. We are particularly pleased with the increase in overnight stays, as this indicator shows that visitors want to stay longer in our city and experience its rich cultural and historical heritage, gastronomy, natural beauty and numerous events. Looking at the first seven months of the year, we can say that Sarajevo has maintained last year’s level of tourist traffic, while the number of overnight stays has increased by more than five percent. This is the result of the joint efforts of all stakeholders in tourism and confirmation that investments in destination promotion are paying off. We are confident that the excellent events taking place in August and the autumn will further contribute to a successful tourist year,” Fazlagic said.

The Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board said it will continue with intensive promotion in key source markets, the development of new tourism offerings and support for events that strengthen Sarajevo’s position as an attractive year-round destination.
