On October 10, 2024, High Representative Christian Schmidt met with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský in Sarajevo to discuss Bosnia and Herzegovina’s current political landscape. Their discussions focused on Bosnia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and the obligations of both domestic political actors and the international community, including the EU, to assist in the country’s accession process.

Schmidt emphasized that Bosnia is at a crucial juncture, with opportunities for EU accession talks, but also risks from ongoing challenges to the General Framework Agreement for Peace. He urged Bosnian politicians to act responsibly, honouring their promises to citizens for a prosperous and secure future.

Schmidt also highlighted the reconciliation between the Czech Republic and Germany as a model for Bosnia, stressing the importance of learning from their experience to foster understanding and reconciliation within Bosnian society.

He thanked Minister Lipavský for the Czech Republic's ongoing support for the international community's efforts in Bosnia, particularly in upholding the Dayton Peace Agreement.
