Bosnia's Security Minister Nenad Nesic called on competent institutions at all levels of authority to act regarding the Wednesday incident, when a juvenile suspect opened fire and shot the elementary school English teacher in the town of Lukavac.

“We have no time to waste, we need to take preventive actions. Obviously the atmosphere of conflicts, fights led to the situation that we witnessed in Lukavac,” the minister told N1, stressing that situations like these affect everyone regardless of religion or ethnicity.

Nesic announced a joint meeting with competent institutions to discuss the matter.

As for the punishments stipulated for juvenile perpetrators, Nesic said what needs to be done is aligning the regulations with the international norms.

“We must show that there can be no situation where someone cannot be sanctioned. We must see what is the international practice here,” he stressed.

The suspect allegedly already threatened with revenge after he was transferred from another school.

The father of the wounded teacher, former MP Ismet Osmanovic, told N1 his son was in a surgery and his health condition was stable.
