The house of the Serbian returnee in Mostar, Sofija Santic, was stoned on Christmas day by an as-yet-unknown perpetrator, which caused material damage to her house and greatly disturbed the returnee family in the Mostar neighbourhood of Bijelo Polje.
Sofija’s daughter, Biljana Santic, told N1 what happened that night.
“Around 11 in the evening on Christmas Day, we heard an unusual noise. We thought they were firecrackers. We heard a loud bang. They went outside and saw that the glass was scattered. We found a medium-sized stone,” Santic said.
The family is upset because there has never been a problem since they returned 20 years ago.
“We have great relations with our neighbours as if nothing happened 30 years ago. Nothing bad ever happened, we're a little sorry [this happened]. We have the support of our neighbours. People are coming. They are sorry and feel guilty, they care. I don't know what happened and I hope it won't happen again”, Santic said for N1.
She added that neither she nor her mother are afraid because they know that they are good people, adding: “Everything will be okay.”
The Herzegovina Neretva Canton (HNK) Interior Ministry told N1 that they are searching for the perpetrators of this crime.
