Floods that affected Serbia over the past few days prompted the declaration of a state of emergency on the territory of 52 cities and municipalities.
A bridge in Mrcajevci near Cacak collapsed this morning due to heavy rainfall and flash floods.
According to the locals, that bridge was their closest connection not only to the city but also to their plots of land.
“Now I don't even know how we're going to do it or what we're going to do. Until recently, it was closed to traffic because it was unsafe to cross, due to the dilapidation of the supporting pillars, and now it is completely destroyed,” said one of the residents of Mrcajevaci.
In December of last year, the authorities allocated funds for the reconstruction of this bridge, but the works never started.
The West Morava in Kraljevo has been stagnating since Saturday morning, and overflowing from the riverbed can be caused by more extensive rain in the Cacak region.
In the villages of Vreoci, Rudovci and Mali Crljeni, near Lazarevac, the water receded to a large extent last night, however, some yards are still under water and it is not possible to approach the houses, the N1 team confirmed last night.
In Prokuplje, the road leading to the Draginja settlement is completely flooded and at the moment it looks like a riverbed, an N1 reporter said.
The Ministry of the Interior said 217 people have been evacuated since midnight due to floods across Serbia.
