Serbia: Five injured in school shooting stable, two critical

Five of those injured in the Wednesday shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar school in central Belgrade are stable, one child is in critical condition but showing improvement, while one child is in critical state, said Thursday morning the directors of the health institutions to which the injured were admitted.

Director of the University Clinical Centre of Serbia Milika Asanin said the situation with two students and one teacher who were admitted to this hospital is much better, and that they feel well.

He said the fourth patient, the most seriously injured with entry-and-exit wounds to his chest, neck and spine “spent the whole of yesterday in the OR, there were two surgeries, he is better, he is awake, but we have to be very cautious and we have to describe his state as critical.”

Director of the University Children’s Clinic Sinisa Ducic said that, of the three shooting victims who were admitted to this hospital, two boys with gunshot wounds to their legs are stable and well, receiving antibiotic therapy and should be released in the next few days.

The third patient, a girl with injuries to the head who underwent surgery on Wednesday is in critical condition, he said, adding that the doctors are doing their best.

A thirteen-year-old boy opened fire Wednesday morning at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in central Belgrade, killing eights students and a security guard and wounding six students and a teacher.
