A Serbian national was reported killed in combat in Ukraine, fighting on the side of Russian troops, Radio Free Europe said.

It said that the man’s death was confirmed by his brother in a social media post who said he would like to bury his sibling at the Russian cemetery in Belgrade. Other posts identified the man as Stefan Dimitrijevic who was reportedly killed on the front lines in Lugansk in the east of the country earlier this month.

The Serbian Foreign Ministry told RFE that it could not confirm the reports.

Dimitrijevic was in the Donbas in 2014 in combat on the Russian side as part of the extreme right Unité Continentale.

A number of Serbian nationals including a former Gendarmerie spokesman and journalist on the pro-regime TV Pink Radomir Bata Pocuca went to Ukraine to side with the ethnic Russians in the east of the country since 2014. The Serbian judiciary convicted 32 people for violating the law which bans Serbian nationals from engaging in foreign wars.
