Professor Dinko Gruhonjic of the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad has received a new threat, this time in the form of a letter sent to the faculty’s address, signed with greetings from the (war criminal) Ratko Mladic, the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) announced today. The association is demanding urgent action from the authorities.

“Shut that Ustasha mouth before it’s too late! Greetings from Ratko Mladic,” the letter reads, filled with insults and threats, ANEM reported.
The association called on authorities to immediately investigate this new case of unacceptable and serious threats against Gruhonjic, identify the perpetrators as soon as possible, and press charges.
“Once again, we emphasize that impunity for attacks on journalists, especially those who, like Gruhonjic, are frequent targets of threats, insults, and attacks, encourages perpetrators to continue because they know they will not be prosecuted,” ANEM stated, noting that Gruhonjić is a frequent target and that the latest threats were reported just a day earlier.

ANEM also highlighted that the professor is often targeted in campaigns run by pro-government tabloids. The recent threats followed several articles published in early September in tabloids regarding Gruhonjic’s visit to Croatia, alleging that he was going there to “spit on Serbia” and labeling him a “Serb-hater.”
In addition to media attacks, ANEM pointed out that Gruhonjic is regularly and falsely accused by government representatives, who from podiums at rallies, interviews on public broadcasters, and tabloid campaigns attempt to link him to student protests and the status of Vojvodina.
