Activists gathered around the "Novi Sad against violence" protest announced that on Monday, August 21, they will organize a rally in that city as a sign of solidarity with women from Bosnia who will protest throughout the country on the same day because of violence against women.

The rally in Novi Sad starts at 4 pm, on Freedom Square, and according to the organizers, a message of “support and solidarity with the women of BiH” will be sent from the protest on the occasion of the recent mass murder in Gradacac, where Nizama Hecimovic and two other people were killed by her ex-partner.

“The common message we are sending is: there is no more urgent and important work than combating men's violence against women and girls, which has reached epidemic proportions throughout our region. The hatred towards women that leads to femicide, the unequal social position of women and girls that enables violence, as well as the general ignoring and denial of the problem, must be eradicated,” the activists stated in the call to the meeting.

They requested that protection from violence in the family and partner relationships become a “real priority” and that the actions of the police, social services and the judiciary be “coordinated, efficient and effective.”
