The European Union has reaffirmed its support for Bosnia and Herzegovina by approving €45.7 million from the EU Solidarity Fund to assist in recovery efforts following the severe floods that struck the country in October 2024, EU Ambassador and Special Representative in BiH Luigi Soreca announced on Tuesday, on X (formerly Twitter).

“Today, the European Commission allocated €45.7 million from the EU Solidarity Fund to Bosnia and Herzegovina to aid recovery from the devastating October 2024 floods, as part of a broader €280 million support package for countries across Europe,” Soreca wrote.

He emphasised that the funding will be directed toward repairing damaged infrastructure, providing temporary housing, and enhancing flood prevention systems.

Soreca added that this contribution comes on top of the €20 million Support Package pledged by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during her recent visit to BiH, as well as bilateral assistance from EU member states.

“Through the EU Solidarity Fund, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a country on the EU accession path, is being treated as though it were already a member state. We are not merely neighbours — we are steadfast friends committed to building a better future together,” he concluded.
