State-owned communications company BH Telecom could cancel the contract on sharing Sport Klub TV channel on its cable television system, which would deprive hundreds of thousands of citizens of an opportunity to watch Bosnia national basketball team competing in the EuroBasket as of September 1.

Sport Klub, a TV channel owned by United Media, has the exclusive rights to broadcast Eurobasket, as well as many other significant sports events, including qualifiers for the World Basketball Championship.

After the Bosnia and Herzegovina basketball team defeated the favored France last night in a spectacular game in Sarajevo, expectations for the appearance of the team at the EuroBasket have increased. Due to the unreasonable and unbusinesslike decision of BH Telecom not to accept the extension of the contract on sharing Sport Klub on its platform, which they have already informed the channel's owners about, all users of BH Telecom's Moja TV platform will not be able to watch the performance of the national team.

What makes the BH Telecom's decision scandalous, is the fact that this is a public company that should take care of the public interest and the right to follow the most important sports events.

The contract between BH Telecom and United Media expires on August 31.

It is interesting that the management of BH Telecom asked United Media to significantly reduce the price for Sport Klub and to allow free sharing of other TV channels, while at the same time they are allocating millions of dollars for Arena Sport, owned by the state-owned company from Serbia, Telekom Serbia.

A few months ago, BH Telecom significantly increased the prices for its Moja TV platform, explaining it by the payment for the rights to share TV channels, so the announcement of the cancellation of Sport Klub and other channels is all the more unpleasant for their users.
