The Medjimurje Police Administration said a criminal investigation is under way to determine all the circumstances of the case and that the public will be informed once more facts are established.

The arrest comes after a shooting in the early hours of Saturday, July 4, when police received a report at 4:03 a.m. that shots had been fired in the parking lot of a hospitality venue in central Cakovec.

Two people were injured in the incident and taken by emergency medical teams to the Cakovec County Hospital, where doctors determined they had suffered serious injuries. They were kept in hospital for treatment.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting, prompting an intensive police search that continued until his arrest.

Trninic had previously been convicted in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2020, he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for participating in a criminal group that operated two marijuana growing laboratories in the Banja Luka area and organised drug distribution to other European countries.

At the time, he was also convicted of illegal possession of 850 grams of explosives and an automatic rifle.

According to available information, Trninic served part of his sentence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the remainder was served in Lepoglava prison in Croatia.
