Hungary will vote against the Resolution on Srebrenica, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at a press conference after the meetings held in Budapest.

Szijjarto said that peace in the Balkans is the most important thing to Hungary, and for that reason, he will vote against the Resolution on Srebrenica at the UN General Assembly.

“BiH has made serious strides on its path to European integration. In March, it was decided to start the negotiation process on joining the EU. It’s important that all entities and peoples in BiH make their contribution. The harmony that was created in Bosnia and Herzegovina which led to an agreement on this issue was broken by the unilateral action of an illegitimate High Representative who changed the Election Law, on his own. This stable situation and understanding in Bosnia and Herzegovina can also be shaken by the adoption of a Resolution on Srebrenica in the UN, which would lead to the demoralization of the Serb people. We think that this will heighten tensions and these intentions should be stopped,” Szijjarto said.

He assessed that the Balkans’ accession to the EU is a means of calming tensions.

“We are witnessing that the decisions of the EU don’t lead to calming of the situation, instead they are raising tensions in the Western Balkans. We also believe that international political participants should end their activities in BiH, and stop threatening sanctions and interfering in the internal affairs of BiH,” he concluded.
