Thousands at cemetery for Mladic funeral

The coffin was brought to the Topcider cemetery from the St Luke church in a red civilian van with a crowd lining the road for more than 4 kilometers. The cemetery was full of people carrying Serbian flags and wearing all sorts of insignia from the wars of the 1990s.

An honor guard in full Serbian Defense Forces uniform fired shots into the air before the coffin was placed in the Mladic family tomb where his daugther Ana was buried in 1994. Mladic’s son Darko gave a speech at the grave site, thanking the crowd for paying respect to his father.

The funeral was attended by President Vucic’s son Danilo, Russian Ambassador Alexander Bocan Harchenko, Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic, Justice Minister Nenad Vujic, Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic, Public Investments Minister Darko Glisic, a large number of ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MPs, former Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and a number of Republika Srpska officials.

Mladic died in the Hague Tribunals’ detention unit hospital in Scheveningen at the age of 84. He was serving a life sentence after being found guilty of war crimes, crimes against humanity and the Srebrenica genocide.
