Thousands of Peace March participants arrived in Potocari after three days of walking the route many took in July 1995, seeking refuge and freedom.
Many lost their lives along this path, and many survivors have participated in the Peace March for years. Silence in Potocari is broken only by the sobs of mothers and participants who experience this moment emotionally each year.
A significant number of participants were children of Srebrenica fighters, entering arm in arm, just as their fathers did when they navigated the forest.
As reported by N1's Adisa Imamovic, who spent the last three days with the Peace March participants, this year was particularly challenging due to the intense heat and difficult terrain.
“On the first day, a helicopter unit from the Armed Forces of BiH assisted because one participant suffered a heart attack, but fortunately, he survived. Today, one of the toughest segments was completed. Thousands of participants come for this moment; everyone we spoke to mentioned this. Tears are often visible in their eyes; they say it's like a pilgrimage and that the mothers of Srebrenica see them as their sons, husbands, brothers,” said Imamovic.
According to organizers, around 6,000 people walked this year, including 250 children. Sadly, one participant passed away.
Earlier, motorcyclists and cyclists arrived. After paying respects to the deceased, the coffins will be transferred from the so-called Battery Factory to the prayer hall.
