Trade Workers’ Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (STBIH) marked the International Labour Day with a protest in Sarajevo called "When is it our turn.” The protest started at 8:30 am in front of the building of the BiH Parliament building.

“I think there are fewer and fewer reasons to congratulate and celebrate and more and more reasons to fight. We, the Trade Workers’ Union, cannot give up and that is why we are here this year,” Union President Mersiha Ferhatovic – Besirevic told N1.

“We sent our requests to both the state and Federation (FBiH) entity levels of government on Friday, knowing that there is no one in the institutions today. We will leave symbolic letters in front of the doors of the institutions and in this way show that the workers are once again being neglected and are taken hostage by political issues,” she added.

“The Trade Workers’ Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark May 1, the International Labour Day, with a protest march by traders, frustrated by the fact that the political scene in BIH, instead of dealing with growing economic problems, is once again occupied by the endlessly long and exhausting establishment of the government,” the Union stated earlier in their public announcement.

The goal of this May Day protest is to draw attention to the fact that the long-term and extremely turbulent process of the formation of the government in BIH is once again resulting in stagnation and a decline in the living standards of workers.
