Trump associate Rod Blagojevich expresses support for Dodik
Rod Blagojevich, former governor of the U.S. state of Illinois and a close associate of former U.S. President Donald Trump, expressed support for the President of BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity Milorad Dodik in a post on X. Blagojevich compared Dodik’s legal case to that of French politician and far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who was sentenced to four years in prison for embezzling European funds.

“VP Vance’s recent speech in Munich got it right. Left wing weaponized prosecutors, courts, & high representatives are trying to jail populist conservative leaders elected by the people & bar them from holding office. What they are doing to LePen in France, the left wing High Representative in Bosnia has been doing to Dodik, the pro Trump, pro Israel, duly elected President of the Republic of Srpska”, Blagojevich posted.
Dodik remains a fugitive after a central arrest warrant was issued against him for attacking the constitutional order of the state. This fact is confirmed by his repeated refusals to appear before BiH judicial institutions despite an order for his arrest.
Blagojevich tagged well-known Trump allies in his post, including U.S. Vice President JD Vance and billionaire Elon Musk, in an apparent attempt to create the impression of international support for Dodik.
However, it is important to note that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and several representatives of the current U.S. administration have expressed unequivocal support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and stability of BiH, stating that any secessionist policy—long advocated by Dodik and his political allies—is unacceptable.
Furthermore, Blagojevich’s claims about “leftist prosecutors and courts” persecuting populist leaders come from someone who himself was convicted of abuse of office and avoided a lengthy prison sentence thanks to political connections.
Blagojevich was sentenced in 2011 to 14 years in prison on corruption charges. In 2020, Trump commuted his sentence, reducing his prison term.
