Tuzla Airport eyes record 760,000 passengers amid major expansion push

Tuzla International Airport has experienced a new boom, accompanied by an increasing number of passengers and a new Wizz Air base aircraft, which is positioned on the runway as of end of March. An increase in the number of destinations and new investments are planned by the end of the year, and negotiations are also underway with new companies.

Since the beginning of the year, the airport has seen 90,000 passengers to 13 destinations served by Wizz Air and to Istanbul with two carriers.
A new travel option is now available with the second base aircraft of Wizz Air, which returned to base last year.
"The arrival of the second base aircraft enables increased operational capacity, a greater number of flights and better connectivity of citizens with European destinations. By expanding the capacity, the network of destinations from Tuzla is also expanding, including more important European cities," said Dzevad Halilcevic, Tuzla International Airport general manager.
One of these cities will be Bratislava, with flights four times a week. The new route, which also connects to Vienna, will strengthen ties between BiH and Slovakia and improve cooperation and the economy.
"This line also has concrete economic significance, both for the Tuzla Canton and BiH, as well as for Slovakia. I am certain that it will contribute to strengthening tourism, improving business ties, and facilitating the mobility of the workforce and diaspora ," said Roman Hloben, Ambassador of Slovakia to BiH.
Last year, 1.5 million marks was allocated from the canton's budget for infrastructure projects, and this year more than five million are planned, plus more than two million marks for flight subsidies.
"We plan to increase the number of arriving passengers by the end of 2026, which would also increase the subsidy. I can say that when it comes to investments in Tuzla Airport, there is no limit. We will do whatever needs to be done to bring the airport to the top level, and the Government of Tuzla Canton stands still when it comes to the work, operations, or stabilization of Tuzla Airport ," stressed Almir Zilic, Minister of Transport, Trade and Tourism of Tuzla Canton.
Last year there were 340,000 passengers, and management has an ambitious plan to end this year with a record 760,000, hoping for a third base Wizz Air aircraft.
