Two people went missing after falling into the Trnavica river in the southwestern Serbian city of Novi Pazar on Thursday.
Emergency service personnel managed to rescue one of three people who fell into the river whose level rose following heavy rains and are still searching for the other two, Nova.rs reported.
The Serbian state TV quoted local officials who said the two missing men are presumed to have drowned, adding that they fell into the water while building a wall of sandbags to protect their homes. An N1 reporter said that the son of one of the men jumped into the river to try to save them and was rescued by local people.
The towns of Prijepolje and Sjenica declared emergency situations on Wednesday after the Lim and Grabovica rivers flooded several villages. The local authorities in Novi Pazar ordered emergency services deployed because of the rising waters of the Raska and Josanica rivers.
The KoSSev news portal reported flooding in parts of north Kosovo, saying that the Zubin Potok – Zvecan road was closed because of a landslide. It said that the Ibar river was rising in Mitrovica with water spilling over onto some streets. The portal said part of the Mitrovica-Zubin Potok road was also closed to traffic.
