UK Parliament's cross-party group led by MP Alicia Kearns has paid a visit to the Srebrenica Memorial Centre on Sunday.
MPs Fleur Anderson, Tony Lloyd, Alyn Smith, Karen Bradley, Martin Vickers, Dave Doogan and Bob Stewart were accopmanied by British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Matt Field.
After a brief meeting with the Srebrenica Memorial director Emir Suljagic they visited the permanent exhibitions, including the ‘In the footsteps of those who did not (have) passed’ exhibition and the video exhibition ‘Srebrenica: Our Story’. They also visited the site of the former battery factory where some of the refugees tried to commit suicide in the days between 11 and 13 July 1995, the Srebrenica Memorial Centre said in a statement.
After visiting the sites across the Memorial Centre, the MPs talked to the young employees and volunteers of the Centre,
They discussed the already completed and current projects with young designers, and IT experts, who are working on oral history and application development projects relevant to this institution, but also with the volunteers from Austria and the UK who are staying at the Memorial Centre.
The MPs emphasised the importance of the Memorial Centre's mission and its existence, but also the work that these young people do.
