During the meeting, Becirovic praised the United Kingdom as one of Bosnia's premier international partners. He expressed gratitude for Britain's steadfast support of the nation's sovereignty, independence, and constitutional order, noting the UK's influential role as a witness to the Dayton Peace Agreement, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, a key NATO ally, and a member of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board.
However, the Presidency Chair raised serious concerns regarding the political climate back home. He warned that the leadership of the Republika Srpska entity is actively engaged in coordinated efforts to weaken state institutions, block vital European Union and NATO reforms, challenge the authority of the High Representative, and subvert the constitutional order. Becirovic cautioned that these actions represent a direct threat to peace and security, urging the international community to deliver a cohesive, decisive, and prompt response.
The discussion also addressed the transition of international oversight, with Becirovic emphasizing that the appointment of a new High Representative must be handled in a manner that preserves the credibility of the Office of the High Representative and ensures it retains the full authority required to execute its mandate.
For her part, Dame Karen Pierce reiterated the United Kingdom's unwavering commitment to Bosnia’s stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. She stressed the vital importance of upholding the Dayton Peace Agreement, ensuring the functionality of state institutions, and maintaining progress on the reforms necessary to bring Bosnia closer to European and Euro-Atlantic institutions.
