The ultramarathon has been held for the past 15 years in memory of the victims of Vukovar, the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, and all civilians killed during the war of aggression against Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The project has special significance because it links Vukovar, the site of the heroic defence in 1991 during Croatia’s 1991-1995 Homeland War, and Srebrenica, where genocide was committed in 1995, symbolising suffering as well as the enduring obligation to preserve the truth, the culture of remembrance and the promotion of peace,” the Bosniak minority said in a statement.

Participants will cover 227 kilometres over five stages along the route from Vukovar (Ovčara) through Vinkovci, Brčko, Janja and Zvornik to Srebrenica (Potočari).

During the opening stage from Vukovar to Vinkovci on 6 July, participants will be joined by staff from several ministries, as well as Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation Minister Damir Habijan.

The ultramarathon is held under the patronage of the Croatian Parliament, the Ministry of Croatian Veterans and the City of Zagreb.

The race will start at 8 a.m. on 6 July from the Ovčara Memorial Site, with participants expected to arrive at the Potočari Memorial Centre at around 12:45 p.m. on 10 July.
