An urgent UN Security Council session on Kosovo, requested by Serbia, will be held on Thursday, February 8, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed for the Serbian state TV (RTS). Pročitaj više

He said there was strong pressure for the session to be held in camera.

“The position of Western countries and countries from the European Union (EU) is that the session should be closed to the public for reasons known only to them. We believe the reason for this is so the entire world public would not hear about what is happening in Kosovo and Metohija and so that the spreading of lies in the international media space could continue,” said Dacic. (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province)

Nothing that this was a very difficult battle for Serbia, the Minister said that he has unofficial information that the meeting will be open to the public after all.

He said Serbia will be represented by President Aleksandar Vucic.

“I think it is very important that his speech be visible and that all the reasons and arguments why we requested an urgent session of the Security Council should be heard by everyone, so that they do not think that this is a constant attempt to complicate the situation, on the contrary. We are complaining about the violation of Resolution 1244, about everything that is happening to the Serbs, about the terror to which they are exposed, including the latest events and the attempt to abolish the dinar,” said Dacic.

The request for an urgent meeting over the situation in Kosovo was submitted Monday by Serbia’s Ambassador to the UN, Nemanja Stevanovic, through the Mission of Guyana, which holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council.

The request draws attention to the current situation in Kosovo, which runs counter to the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and points out that it requires a special session of the Security Council.
