Union consumer basket for August well over 3,000 Bosnian marks

In comparison, the latest figures from the Federation (FBiH) entity’s Bureau of Statistics show that the average net salary paid in the FBiH for June 2026 was 1,714 marks (approx. €876.35), while the statutory minimum wage established by the entity government sits at 1,027 marks (approx. €525.12).

These calculations reveal that the average salary covers just 44.98 percent of the union consumer basket, whereas the minimum wage finances a mere 26.95 percent. The consumer basket calculation is modeled on the minimum living expenses of a standard four-member household comprising two adults, one secondary school student, and one primary school pupil.

Food constitutes the single largest expenditure category, accounting for 43.58 percent of the total basket based on monitored prices across 86 items from three major retail centers. Education and culture represent 18.33 percent, housing and communal services take up 11.56 percent, and clothing and footwear make up 10.50 percent.

Remaining household budget allocations include hygiene and healthcare at 6.83 percent, household maintenance at 5.25 percent, and transport at 3.94 percent. The figures underscore that even an average monthly income falls significantly short of covering half of the basic living costs for a typical family in the region.
